Lutz Maicher studied Business Computing at the Universities of Leipzig and Rennes. In his subsequent doctorate within the context of the DFG Research Training Group “Knowledge Representation”, he expanded his expertise in the field of semantic technologies and factual databases. In 2005, Dr. Lutz Maicher established TMRA, the most important international conference in the field of Topic Maps. Starting in 2007, Dr. Lutz Maicher was head of the work group “Topic Maps Lab”, whose focus is on flexible, semantic data integration. The group develops innovative enabling technologies for collaborative data management and implements them in application-oriented projects. These applications for research related to archaeology, the history of music and bibliography have been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the State Ministry of Culture. In May 2011, Lutz Maicher moved to the Fraunhofer MOEZ, where he set up the Competitive Intelligence Division. The main focus of this division is the data-driven analysis of the global competition of knowledge-intensive technology companies. Since April 2014, Lutz Maicher is also junior professor for technology transfer at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
