Fraunhofer transfer management system: Generating impact in cooperation with Germany's Mittelstand (InnoTransMitt)

The research and development activities of small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany are hampered not only by a lack of the respective personnel, technology and finances but also by their non-existent absorption capacities.

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, on the other hand, has:

  • access to a broad and varied technology basis,
  • extensive experience in the needs-focused design of innovation processes and
  • access to established instruments for the transfer of intellectual property and expert knowledge via a range of utilization paths.

In the research project “InnoTransMitt”, researchers from the Innovation Policy and Transfer Design Unit are collaborating with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft to develop and implement a systematic approach that optimizes the transfer and commercialization structures with a focus on Germany's medium-sized enterprises (“Mittelstand”).

The “Fraunhofer transfer management system” is aimed at making it easier for medium-sized companies to recognize the potential for technology-based solutions, at making new technologies and knowledge from public research available and when needed, at implementing adequate transfer structures and mechanisms.
