Prof. Dr. Hans Wiesmeth

Scientific Interests

Prof. Dr. Wiesmeth General focuses on equilibrium theory with special attention to environmental economics and the theory of public goods in the case of empirical studies and practical application. In addition, this research focuses on finding suitable framework conditions, for example, for the goals of environmental politics.

 

Scientific Career

After studying mathematics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg between 1970 and 1975, Hans Wiesmeth worked as an assistant at the Social Economic Institute of the University of Hamburg. There he received his doctorate in 1979 on the subject of fixed-price equilibriums and non-tonment processes. A year later, he also completed his habilitation at the University of Hamburg. In 1981 he was appointed professor of economic theory at the University of Bonn. In 1992 he moved to the Technical University of Dresden, where he became professor of economics, in particular. allocation theory took over. From 1993 to 2000 he held the post of Vice-Rector for Science and from 200 to 2003 was founding director of BIOTEC, the biotechnological centre of the TU Dresden. From 2005 to 2010 he was rector of the Leipzig University of Commerce (HHL Leipzig Graduate School), then president of Dresden International University (DIU) until 2014.

Since 2004 Hans Wiesmeth has been a full member of the technical science class of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig, from 2012 to 2016 he was its vice-president and since 2016 he has been president of this academy.Publikationen
