DaWID: More sovereignty over my data

Platform for value determination and self-determined data release

Motivation

Data has become an essential asset for any platform and therefore provides the opportunity to develop new business models. Data can be used to create a digital image (Digital Twin) of people and their environment. However, users run the risk of losing sovereignty over their own data.

Objectives and procedure

The DaWID project wants to make it possible to understand and control how data is used in digital services by companies through a communication and service platform. In addition, users should get a feeling for the value of their data by allocating a sum of money to a respective data release. In this transparent way, new data-centric value chains are to be established and cooperation and business models enabled. The basis for testing these new approaches is the International Data Space (IDS), which was initiated in 2014 and already provides a secure space for more than 100 companies to exchange data. The research questions in the project also include ethical aspects regarding the implementation of concepts in relation to data.

Innovations and Perspectives

The goal of DaWID is to develop into a meta-platform which mediates between service providers. The inclusion of the IDS, with its access to more than 100 companies, enables strong industry participation industry and is specifically intended to help SMEs establish new business models.

Project Tasks

Fraunhofer IMW is dedicated to solving business-economic research problems. To this end, possible pricing and business models for digital, data-driven services are being explored. In addition to the macroeconomic considerations, questions regarding the ethical limits of data usage are, together with our project partners, currently being addressed.
