Professional development

As part of the Innovation Acceptance Unit, Henrik Beermann initiates and manages international knowledge transfer projects, mostly related to natural resource management and sustainable urbanism. He is passionate about the dynamic interplay between knowledge and local contexts. Henrik is driven by the question of how social systems make sense of and act upon new knowledge that can potentially address local challenges. He integrates bottom-up and top-down perspectives to design people-centric, scalable solutions. Henrik has actively worked on research projects, the design of policy strategies, curricula, toolkits, training programs, and coaching processes on a global scale.

Before joining the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Henrik worked for an international business school where he contributed to research on the intersection of sustainable development and entrepreneurship promotion. Prior to that, he started his career by working for an international NGO in Southeast Asia.

With a goal to blend theoretical expertise with hands-on experience, Henrik joined Fraunhofer IMW in 2015. He is a pragmatic, creative global citizen who proactively works to transcend the boundaries of normalized knowledge systems, seeking progressive and inclusive solutions for today’s greatest challenges.

He holds an International Joint Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development, with an M.Sc. from Leipzig and Venice University, and he has studied in both Leipzig and Stellenbosch (South Africa).
