Professional Development
Pierre Achkar has been working as a Research Fellow in the “Data Science for Innovation” unit at Fraunhofer IMW (from January 1, 2025, part of Fraunhofer ISI) since May 2024. He was previously employed as a research assistant in the same unit for two years, which allowed him to gain extensive experience.
Before joining Fraunhofer IMW, he worked in the field of Business Intelligence (BI), where he was intensively involved in the analysis of large amounts of data, the creation of dashboards and the training of machine learning algorithms.
Pierre Achkar completed both his Bachelor's degree in Business Informatics and his Master's degree in Data Science at Leipzig University. He wrote his master's thesis on the training of multimodal AI for simultaneous text and image data processing in the context of social media.
His main expertise is in Natural Language Processing (NLP) with a special focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) and their integration into information retrieval systems. He is currently doing his PhD at the Webis group in the new research area Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
