PROOF – Acceptance of decentralized urban power generation systems in Vietnam

The need for climate-friendly technologies for increasing energy production poses major challenges for emerging countries with an already highly loaded energy distribution infrastructure.

The Solar Pv ROOFtop Initiative in Vietnam (PROOF) investigates the technical, economic and social framework conditions for decentralized, urban energy generation systems, using photovoltaic systems in the Vietnamese economic metropolis Ho Chi Minh City as an example.

To begin the project, Fraunhofer IMW is investigating the socioeconomic aspects. First, an understanding of the local challenges and development goals of Ho Chi Minh City is developed. Fraunhofer IMW scientists are working closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE in Kassel and Ho Chi Minh Technical University as local cooperation partners. In the subsequent main phase of the project, which will last several years, the focus will be on system connection, system innovation and system transformation. The regulatory framework conditions are to be strengthened, value creation potential exploited and context-specific transformation scenarios developed.
