PRESOURCE - EU project to promote resource efficiency in small and medium enterprises

Duration: June 2012 to December 2014

Since 1 June 2012, the Fraunhofer Center Leipzig has been participating in the EU research project PRESOURCE (Promotion of Resource Efficiency in Central European SMEs). The goal of this highly application-oriented project is to raise the level of resource efficiency in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the manufacturing sector in selected Central and Eastern European countries. This goal is to be achieved by means of jointly developed measures for the identification and economic utilization of previously unexploited potentials for environmental innovations.

The Fraunhofer Center Leipzig is coordinating the Innovation Funding work package within the project. Central to this work is identifying key actors and instruments in the field of innovation funding, as well as identifying relevant driving forces and barriers in implementing resource efficiency measures in SMEs. In addition, work is being done on an innovative method of cost-benefit analysis for investment projects in this field in cooperation with the project partners. Based on country studies and transnational workshops, the project findings are being summarized in the form of a virtual guide (“Financing Guide”) for public and private investors and recommended procedures are being derived for policy-makers.

PRESOURCE is funded by the European Union’s Central Europe Programme. It comprises a consortium of eight partners from six Central and Eastern European countries. The project leader is the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA). An additional German partner is the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
