OCTMAPP – optical coherence tomography for new biomedical applications

Background

The success of the research-based development and the subsequent market diffusion of a new imaging modality, as used in optical coherence tomography (OCT), depends to a considerable degree on the networking of relevant stakeholders (clinical research partners, users, opinion leaders). The inclusion of the international community is a must.

Japan is the world's second-largest market for medical devices. Important research institutions and companies are based here that must be considered when attempting to establish such devices in a clinical context.

Project

The project aims to extend an already existing relationship with a top research institution towards a permanent research presence in Japan and to develop this into a research unit with a deserved reputation for excellence in the long term. Due to the input of clinical expertise, the collaboration will also make a considerable contribution to increasing the practical knowledge of using OCT systems in the medical area.

In this project, Fraunhofer IMW experts are tasked with the development of a financially viable and long-term exploitation and partnership concept in cooperation with all of the project partners.

This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
