Digital Health

Health is one of the megatrends of our time. In times of continuous technological progress, constantly changing patient needs, increasing cost pressure and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic of recent years, digital transformation is taking on a new significance in the healthcare industry. The use of digitalization enables patient-centered care and facilitates the work of employees in medical care facilities and is actively demanded by patients. Issues such as interoperability, comprehensibility and reliability play a crucial role, especially in combination with the processing of sensitive data and the responsibility for the well-being of patients. Digitization efforts and the introduction of new technologies always affect patients and therefore require special care.

We support companies and medical service providers in the challenges of value creation and digitalization in healthcare.

Through our research projects, we have broad expertise in the field of healthcare and healthcare research and complement the offerings of our, mostly technically-oriented, Fraunhofer partner institutes with a socioeconomic perspective.

This makes us thought leaders in the field of digital value creation in the healthcare sector and we develop value creation approaches around the future topics of the industry. We place particular focus on the topics:

  • Digital Health Platforms and Digital Health Applications (DiGA)
  • Digital, intersectoral care
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare
  • Robotics in healthcare
  • Patient trust and data sovereignty
  • Digital competencies in the healthcare sector

In order to take full advantage of these opportunities and potentials of digitalization, the interdisciplinary team of the Fraunhofer IMW offers companies individual research services, tailored to the individual starting position and needs of an organization.
