Leipzig Fraunhofer researchers support regional development in Saxony's lignite mining regions

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW in Leipzig are helping to shape structural change in Saxony's lignite mining regions in Lusatia and Central Germany. In the research project GENESIS (Short for "Gestaltung neuer Entwicklungspfade im Strukturwandel in Sachsen", in English: "Design of New Development Paths in Structural Change in Saxony"), funded by the German government, a data-based twin of the coalfields is being created in close cooperation with the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development. With its help, the structural change there in particular is to be accompanied, evidence-based approaches for the coal phase-out are to be developed and transparency about the development in the coalfields is to be created.

World of QUANTUM 2023: Fraunhofer research team "Quantum Ecosystem Deutschland (Q.E.D.)" presents program on building sovereign innovation and value chains in the quantum computing ecosystem in Germany at the Quantum flagship trade fair

The research project "Quantum Ecosystem Deutschland (Q.E.D.)", funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF, will be represented at the World of QUANTUM 2023 in Munich, the platform for the quantum community, from June 27 to 30, 2023, with an exhibition booth and expert talk. The research team will be working with national and international experts from research and industry in a professional exchange on the state of the quantum computing ecosystem in Germany. You can meet the researchers in hall A1, booth 229 and get an overview of the state of their research work in the presentation at the Focus Day Quantum Computing on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

EXPRESS experimental field at the 5th Winemaker-Service Fair from February 8 to 10, 2023 in Karlsruhe

The research project "EXPRESS - Experimental field for data-driven networking and digitization in agriculture", funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture until 2024 and supported by interdisciplinary cooperating university and non-university research institutions, will participate in the 5th Winemaker Service Fair from February 8 to 10, 2023 with an information booth on the digital experimental fields. The aim is to dialogue with practitioners on new impulses in the digital transformation of agriculture directly from the research work at the largest trade fair for viticulture, cellar management, fruit growing and distillery, as well as marketing and sales in Germany.

Knowledge transfer for technology-oriented structural change in Central Germany

The House of Transfer (HoT) project started yesterday in Leuna. The coming four years are set to see the development of a central hub for all stakeholders in the biobased economy, chemical, plastics, and hydrogen sectors in the Central German mining region. Led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the project team, which comprises the project partners BioEconomy e. V., the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW, the Chemie+ cooperation network, Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and POLYKUM e. V., has set itself the goal of providing support for the accelerated implementation of the structural change. The project is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWK) to the tune of €4.6 million.
