FIRECE - Innovative Financing Instruments for a Low-Carbon Energy Transition in Central Europe

Motivation:

International climate goals for the desired share of renewable energy in total energy consumption represent a common challenge for Central European countries. At the heart of this challenge is the development of concrete possibilities for financing sustainable energy measures.

Project:

The objective of the European joint project FIRECE is to support regional actors in implementing energy efficiency measures, especially with regard to available financial resources for increasing investment in renewable energies. This project focuses on the design of innovative financial instruments that can be used by regional authorities as leverage for public funding. The planned project results include a transnational strategy for the implementation of innovative financing concepts, interaction and experience-sharing among stakeholders in the pilot regions involved, and an online tool available to local actors for the quality assessment of investments.

Our Services:

The Innovation Financing Unit at Fraunhofer IMW will support regional actors in developing innovative financing instruments for public and private low-carbon investments. The unit will contribute to identifying relevant financial stakeholders and customized financing models, and will also analyze driving forces and existing obstacles in the implementation of innovative financing instruments.

The alternative financial instrument known as crowdfunding will be examined as a potential suitable means of realizing investments in energy efficiency projects, and further innovative financial instruments such as the combination of crowdfunding and credit or crowdfunding and promotion will be analyzed.
