Background

The operation of wind turbines generates large amounts of data. Analyzing this data can provide valuable insights into operational behavior. By collaborating with research, this data could be used to optimize operation, maintenance and associated costs.

Project description

The aim of the "FAIRWinDS" project is to bring data analysts and wind farm operators together using the interface of a data trustee. The data trustee manages the transfer of the provided data according to the terms of use defined by the operator. It prepares them according to wind energy industry standards (IEC 61400-25-2), performs anonymization if necessary, and optimizes them for search processes by describing them with metadata.

Our services and tasks

Fraunhofer IMW's contribution lies in the development and testing of an exemplary organizational solution. Our scientists identify and analyze different business model options for data trustees (as well as other actors in the ecosystem) and derive implications for the design and scaling of the data trustee model.
