Professional Development
Dr. Steffen Preissler studied political science, law and sociology in Leipzig (D), Olomouc (CZ) and in Samara (RUS). He first worked as a research assistant at the Center for International Economic Relations (ZIW) in Leipzig and then joined the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW in 2006. Fraunhofer is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Since then he has designed and managed various national and international projects (e.g. EU, BMBF, BMWi). Since 2008 he is head of the department “Knowledge and Technology Transfer“ and holds a teaching position at the University of Leipzig. In 2020, Dr. Steffen Preissler was appointed deputy director of the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW by the Executive Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
Since 2010, he has served as an expert for various ministries (CZ, D), funding agencies (Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG) and in 2012 and 2018 as a Short Term Consultant for the World Bank. In 2015, he was commissioned by the EU Commission as an “Independent Expert“ within the framework of the new “Policy Support Facility“ to work out recommendations for the further development of the Bulgarian research and innovation system as part of a 10-member expert team at the initiative of the Bulgarian government. In 2016, he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Leipzig on the topic “Interorganizational Knowledge and Technology Transfer. A transactional economic analysis between market and hierarchy“. Since 2019, he serves as representative of Fraunhofer IMW in the “Sino-German Company Work Group on Industry 4.0 and Intelligent Manufacturing (AGU)”.
Since August 2023, Dr. Steffen Preissler has been a visiting professor at the National Science and Technology Development Agency, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Thailand. Here, Dr. Preissler provides support in the areas of strategy, knowledge and technology transfer, and international research networks.
